Getting There

This section is aimed at helping people find the best Route to Roatan. Roatan can be reached by Air from a number of US, Canadian and Central American cities. It can also be reached by Ferry  from Le Ceiba on the Honduran mainland.

The tables below are rough guides, since airlines frequently change their timetables it is impossible to keep fully up to date, so they should be used as rough guides to help you use flight search websites such as Kayak as cleverly as possible.

By far the easiest option is to fly direct to Roatan, but this is rarely the cheapest option!

Searching for a cheap flight involves a few steps to ensure you find the best price schedule combination, Airfare websites are clever, but they still do not handle the small local airlines which operate in Honduras.  This means that buying your ticket to the mainland and your ticket to Roatan seperately can save you quite a lot of money!
  1. Do a search from your nearest airport with Roatan as the destination
  2. Do a search from your nearest airport with San Pedro Sula as the destination, then add about $200 to that price to get to Roatan by air from San Pedro (return) or $100 if you are prepred to take the bus and ferry. THIS SEARCH IS NEARLY ALWAYS THE CHEAPEST ROUTE, but ONLY if you find flights that avoid an overnight stay in San Pedro, ie you flight into San Pedro must arrive no later than 2pm and that is cutting it fine! It is better to overnight in Le Ceiba than San Pedro, so if your flight to San Pedro arrives too late to fly to Roatan, consider flying to Le Ceiba on one of the evening flights (islena 18.45) and stay at Rainbow Village, next to airport in Le Ceiba
  3. Do a search to San Salvador as your destination and then a search from San Salvador to Roatan. San Salvador has a large number of international flights arriving early in the morning a 1 hour layover is fine in this small airport.

The Cheapest way top get Roatan is nearly always through San Pedro Sula, followed by taking the Hedman Alas bus to Le Ceiba and the Galaxy Wave ferry to Roatan. You will probably have to overnight in Le Ceiba if you take this option though.

By referencing the tables below you should be able to find some pretty reasonable deals, it will take an hour or two of trying different variables on different days, but if you have the time it can save you HUNDREDS of dollars to buy two separate tickets as opposed to just doing a search ending in Roatan.

There are currently four Honduran airlines operating to Roatan. Some have better online reservation systems than others.  If the online system generates no flights on your selected day/route, it is always worth calling to double check.  If you are relying on these flights for tight international connections TRAVEL INSURANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, to cover the cost of flight cancellation resulting
