Captain Alex

Paintball - Monkey Combat, ask in any dive shop or at sundowners.  These guys have walk on games Saturdays and Sundays and the rest of the week will take reservations.  $15 for your first 200 balls $5/200 therefafter.  All the usual safety equipment included.

Rent a motorbike and tour the island.  This is a particularly good idea for Sundays when Hole in the Wall restaurant have an all-you-can-eat lobster and steak buffet.  Captain Vans in the West End rent good quality, well maintained bikes and scooters.  See the West End Map for their location.

Snorkelling - Even if you don't dive, you really should go out and snorkel on the beautiful reef.  Snorkel equipment can be rented in many places, the best place to snorkel is at the far end of West bay near the rocks.  It is lovely all around the point.  Stay in reasonably shallow water though as the currents run offshore in the deeper water.  A safer option may be to go out with one of the dive operators.

Canopy Tour - There are threel canopy tours on the island, two up above west bay, one further east.  It is nothing like as good as the ones in Costa Rica at Monte Verde, but good fun.

Dive Deep in the unique Deep Sea Submersible in West End Village.  Carl started designing subs at the age of seven.  The sub be currently operates is the second he has built.  Going in it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  You will be one of very few people in the world to have gone that deep.

Horseback Riding on the Beach at West End - I have never been a fan of horses, but have seen people riding along the beach often, and they look like they are having fun!

Captain Alex - Sailing trips on Adventure Girl, $35 pp, minimum three people.  Alex is a nice local guy with a local built wooden boat, great for sailing down the coast on a nice day, I suspect he wouldn't be averse to smoking a doobie or two either!  You just need to ask around to find him, coconut tree and fosters are a good place to try, but most people know him.

Gumbalimba Park, many activities aimed at children.  One of the Canopy tours is based here.

Butterfly Garden - Central America is home to many butterflies, you can see a few of them here.  Located just outside West End on the road to Coxen Hole.

Iguana Farm - These prehistoric creatures are native to Roatan.  You can also sometimes see them on the rocks my Las Rocas resort in West Bay.

A Day on the beach at West Bay.  It is a lovely beach, but the sand flies may drive you to distraction.  Oily sun creams are best to stop them biting.

Hole in the Wall Restaurant.  Sunday afternoon is the big all you can eat buffet.  The restaurant is located on the east end at Jonesville so you will need transport.  Drive to Jonesville and go to the end of the paved road. Stand at the little wooden dock and they will pick you up by boat.  Food usually isn't served until about 3pm, but it is a small place so get there in good time!

Day sailing excursion to nearby islands and cays  - There are a few more modern sailing boats on the island beside Captain Alex.  Captain Dusty owns a boat called first light, there is also Nina's boat Nina Elizabeth. and Calypso lady based in West Bay - tel 5043365597

Turquoise bay - A beach resort towards the east end of the island.  Rent jetskis and other activities.
