This is a page I am using to publish some of
the feedback emails I get. I only publish emails from people who can
verify they have been to both Utila AND Roatan if they are comparing the
two. That basically means I (or a friend of mine) met them in Roatan
and they can answer questions about Utila they would only know if they had
been there!From Katleen:
..."my trip to utila was good. utila is not as nice as
roatan, but cheaper. i stayed in a hostel with a dive shop, if you dived
you could stay the night for free. i didn't t dive because i have to pay
attention with my money. a dive course cost 200 dollars. every day you
dive
you pay 3 dollars tax, like we paid the green hanger. the course was
exactly the same as ours and you got 2 free dives after the course...makes
a
big difference. i did some snorkeling and of course the reef is the same
as in
roatan, though in roatan you have more reef! I might sound that utila was
better, but it s not. utila had also 3 beaches, not so nice and one is a
private beach -you had to pay 3 dollars entry. i wanted to stay 2 days up
there, but i ended with 4 days. met wonderful people and so my English
friend olly...we had crazy good time and a birthday party of a French guy,
a
bbq with a lot of musicians and juggling. we had good parties, but my
last
night didn't t had a very good end...i saved a girl from a rape...i was
walking with olly and marc and so that there was something going wrong
with
a girl and a local...she was a bit drunk but i heard her yelling that she
didn't t like it...olly and marc didn't t recognize it but brave kat
started
talking unfriendly to that man, he ran away and the girl cried in my arms
the whole way back to the hostel. I met also two guys, all there stuff
got
robbed...the island looked friendly but strange things were happening."...
Someone doesn't agree with me - She's a good friend
though and the website has changed a lot since she wrote this!
'Your website is not only
biased but rude, and coming from someone who supports the marine park, I
think you are over-stepping the boundaries, very immature, unprofessional
and not good business, I don’t quite understand why you are doing this but
I think you should be careful not to make too many enemies… after all,
coconut tree is not your dive shop even.'
Jim, from Texas say's
'Thanks for all the useful information in
your website - it made my trip to Roatan much easier. After eating
and many of the places you recommend I only wish Dian's had been open
because all the places you say are good were and you rave about Dian's as
does everyone else on the island. The guys at Coconut Tree really
did make me feel like part of the family!'

'Lonely Planet 0 - Bay Islands Diver 1,
your website is soooo much more up to date than Lonely Planet and
Footprint, it made my trip to the Bay Islands a breeze - well almost, I
wish I had listened to your advise sooner and gone straight to Roatan,
there was no power in Utila and had been none for weeks, that meant that
there was very little water as most systems relied on an electric pump.
After a few days there we went to Roatan instead, what a difference!
Beautiful beaches, beautiful little beach town and MUCH more friendly to
backpackers like myself and my three friends. It is more expensive
though, but not by as much as lonely planet and all the people in Utila
like to make out. We stayed at the Dolphin in Roatan, which had a
great view and the room was acceptable, we dived with Coconut Tree and had
a lot of fun every evening drinking cheap beer on the deck and listening
to that mad Italian Pino talking nonsense! - Thanks again!'

'Good website, I enjoyed Roatan, much
more fish than Utila, it is amazing to think to Islands so close can have
such a difference in fish diversity. I stayed at Burkes Place which
I don't recommend, I wish I had seen your website earlier. West End
divers were a cool bunch to dive with, very friendly.'
Gary Said:
'.....Utila rocks, Roatan sucks - Utila
is a much bigger hipper town than Roatan. The bars are nicer and
there a loads more young people there - If you want to party go to you
Utila!'

'Roatan
stole my heart! Everyday I sit in the office dreaming of going back, what
a unique place - it felt like home the first night I was there drinking in
the purple turtle, you are so lucky to live there. I visit your
website often just to remind myself of those happy days. Thanks to
all at Coconut Tree, Sundowners, The Purple Turtle, Fosters the list
endless, I'll be back soon!'
